Spinning

The fourth time’s a charm.  At least that’s what I’ve been telling myself.  I’ve now casted on this curtain for the fourth time adding one extra repeat to make it just a bit wider.  I’m absolutely convinced that this one will be the right size and I shouldn’t make any more mistakes, after all I’ve knit this 3 times already.

Yesterday the weather was gorgeous so we filled up the blow-up pool in the back yard and while the kids ran in and out of it splashing all over to cool off, I was able to work on my curtain.  The casing is now done and I’m almost at the point where I stopped my 3rd try.

Oh and because you might like chocolate as much as much as I do and because it may land on your hips as it does on mine, I’m showing you the newest edition to my garden.

chocamocca

This lovely little flower is my new Choca Mocca plant.  My neighbor came home with one of these for her garden and just had to show me.  She’s velvety brownish red  and soo pretty but as you can imagine that’s now why I had to run out and buy one of my own.  No, it’s because when she’s out in the sun she smells just like chocolate.  Roses pale in comparison with this sweet smell, it’s really yummy.  Maybe smelling her off and on during the day and the fact that my running shoes have been back in action will keep those pounds from settling on my hips.

now to find the right place to put it. I’m afraid we’re going to be quite busy the next few months trying to find a good lot in a nice neighbourhood. While we were having one of the many long talks with our new builders, Alida decided which house she would like:

Here is the floor plan according to Alexander: (sorry it’s all in German but it’s pretty cute considering he’s just learning to read).

Alida tidbit: About a year ago while we were looking at houses Alida turned to me in the car and asked, “Mom, if we buy a house, how are we going to get it home?”

On the fiber front, here is my clapotis lounging with the last 2 -100 gr skeins I managed to finish spinning a few weeks ago.

She’s getting done!

new books

I have found the book of my geeky dreams. It’s The Knitter’s Book of Yarn. I’ve been reading it page for page, just inhaling the information found there. This is sooo my book. If you’re a knitting geek, like me, who can’t get enough information about yarn this one is probably for you too. Domiknitrix has been on my to-buy list for quite some time, so I splurged and bought it too. Yeah for buying knitting books.

There has been some knitting progress going on too. Eris has some curves on the bottom edge! Gotta love Eris! I do and I can’t stop knitting her, however slow my progress is.

My brainless, take-along knitting is my homespun Clapotis which is turning out sooo soft and wonderful.

I should be spinning more yarn for her but I haven’t been able to take myself away from Eris to spin. I just want to knit. Like teaching the kids to knit, resistance is futile!

I’ve finally finished clue #4 of my secret of the stole. I’m now halfway done.

I say finally, although I just got the clue on Friday, because I had to finish these two things first:

hallowig

These are Hallowigs for Halloween. I finished mine about 2 weeks ago but Alida’s was slow in coming, so on Saturday I did my best to finish it in time for Halloween. Hers is the same size as mine but with shorter hair in the back. I don’t think I’ll be wearing my wig for Halloween but Alida would like to be Snow White so black hair is just perfect. You do know we are going to have a party, right? We just love Halloween.

I’ve also been meaning to show you my spinning but just haven’t gotten around to it. I’m in love with my wheel again and managed to spin up 1/4 of my merino/silk mix which I’ve set aside for my next Clapotis. I love how cushy this yarn turned out. Rachel, this is the same as what you have. :)

wool and silk for clapotis

Just 300 gr. more to spin up and I’m ready to cast on. Oh I can’t wait to get this on my needles but I must restrain myself, I want to have at least 1/2 of the yarn done before I cast on.

Thanks so much to everyone for leaving comments!!! I read and enjoy every single one!!! I’m so sorry I’m not able to answer them all but I have an incredibly hectic schedule that should let up sometime in January. Until then, I can only hope to post once a week, and although it makes me sad, I have to be happy with that right now. On Thursday of this past week I took my camera with me the entire day and took pictures to show you just what my days look like. I hope to be able to post about that soon, this week I have off from work and although I have tons planned, this is one of the things I really want to get done.

Thanks again for stopping by and leaving comments-knowing you all are out there really keeps me going!!
