wool and silk

Here is a mini skein of merino and silk that is just amazingly soft and OH MY, this roving spins up like butta. I ordered some in both deep red with white silk and deep red with red dyed silk to see the difference. I’m planning on ordering 300 gr. more of one or the other to spin up for a Clapotis . Oh this stuff is to die for!!

In this picture you can see the different silks and how they change the red merino.

Gina fiber

Here is part of a fabulous box of roving from Gina. We’re doing a roving swap, and although I already have my box, her box is sitting in the corner waiting for some more additions. So what do you think, Gina, would you like some of that red? It’s pure butta!! I realize I’ve said that before but I must say it again. Butta! Thanks, Gina!!!

I also must tell you about my project at school which has started and is going better than I thought it would. I’ve started small by teaching my 3rd grade ESL class to knit. After having a wonderful conversation with Uta from Wollsucht.com she realized she didn’t have enough plastic knitting needles, so she sent me to her very sweet friend Marianne from Mariane’s Opalwolle. Shortly after putting in my order for needles and wool, I received a package full of wonderful things. Thank you, Marianne!! The kids loved the washable wool Marrianne had picked out and after their second day with needles, they are happily knitting away. If you are planning to buy anything online by way of yarn or needles, these two online stores are fantastic!  Tell them the crazy American teacher sent you.  You may get a laugh.

Speaking of school, in March I’m bringing in my spinning wheel to spin for the kindergarten and shortly after that a 4th grade teacher has asked me to come to her class. The art teacher has put in an order for the lady who spins wool, and Alexander’s teacher needs me to come to his school too. I should be pretty busy. I’ve been working on pictures and facts about the wool-to-sweater process, which has taken a lot of time, but I’m sure the kids will like it. My trial run with my 3rd graders went well. The wool samples were a hit.

My school will be closed for winter break next week, so we’ve decided to head South to visit my in-laws and maybe get some skiing in. The way it appears, though, it will be more of a swim rather than a ski trip, but it should be fun just the same. I’m taking my small suitcase packed with yarn, so I’m ready for anything that may come my way. I’m going to miss my wheel.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to read blogs for about a week now and I’m sad that I’m so behind, but there are too many other things that are taking priority at the moment making it impossible to get to my reading. I will get to them, in time. Maybe even while on vacation. You just never know.

Have a wonderful week!!

ewe

This is what I got for Valentine’s Day.
I guess I can’t ask for a sheep anymore, can I?

Night pictures are horrible but it’s either that or none at all. I just couldn’t resist those eyes, could you?
