Alexander loved his great-grandfather so much and will miss him dearly. He’s been a wonderful friend and babysitter for Alexander and Alida since they were born. He was diagnosed with cancer less than 4 weeks ago and was taken away from us much too fast.

We all love you, Opa, and always will!

My Must Have Cardi is proving to be so much fun to knit. Although I wanted to knit this slowly along with the progress we make on the house, I can’t seem to put it down. This yarn is yummy and is making the cables pop out beautifully.

The back is done and I’ve added 2 inches to the length so I’m sure to have plenty of coverage. I have a small feeling this sweater is going to be a favorite.

We have had a bit of progress on the house too, well at least on the lot. We’re still waiting for some paperwork to go through and the building permit to be issued, but until then we can check the ground and the water level. Here they are drilling for ground samples to bake dirt cakes with. Well, that’s what they said they were going to do but I think they then go to the lab for testing.

drilling the ground

We also had to check the ground for cables and utility lines using two dowsing rods.

checking for cables

It worked!

The doors, tiles and sinks have been chosen. This appointment alone took about 5 hours!! We’ve also visited 3 kitchen studios and have pretty much decided which cabinets, counter tops and pulls we like.

cabinets?
Who knew all these decisions would take so much time! I guess if you look at the time we’ve put into the house so far, I’m right on track with finishing the back of my sweater.

She’s finished after 9 weeks of diligently trying to keep up with the clues.

I used navy blue lace weight 100% merino and a size 4mm needle. After knitting the first clue I saw just how big it was but I loved the laciness of it, so I continued knitting. Just before finishing her I was a bit nervous about her size but now that she’s blocked and I can try her on, I really like how big she is. I’m wearing her right now around my cold shoulders and she’s long enough to stay in place while I type, really snugly warm and very delicate all at the same time. I love her. Thanks, DK!

Here are some more pictures of my new stole. Sorry about the quality of these pictures, I knitted her all yesterday to finally finish last night at 10:00 pm. Of course, the sun was out yesterday and it was a perfect day for pictures while today has been dreary and rainy without the slightest chance of clearing.

Oh how I love a mystery stole. It’s hard to tell, isn’t it?

Thanks for all your wonderful comments and I’m so sorry about not answering them lately, I’ve had a lot of things going on right now. One of those things is taking care of my teeth. This time it was time for 3 fillings on one side to be changed. After having the old ones drilled and a mold made and sent off (a two hour procedure I had to endure with the kids at my side) I’m now waiting painfully for the new gold inlays to be made to replace these temporaries that aren’t proving to be all that great. I’ve never taken so much Ibuprofen in my life and I’m counting the hours until my appointment on Thursday. Oh and on Monday we have our 4-hour appointment with the interior designer to decorate the house. Tuesday it’s a kitchen store. What fun!!
