mittens mittens

My Norwegian mittens are finally done! I absolutely love them!! I will sleep with these on, I will.
Finished Date: January 29, 2006
Pattern: Knitting Around by Elizabeth Zimmermann
Yarn: Lana Grossa Merino 2000 Superfein, 50 gr/160 m
3 balls- 2 in red# 514, 1 in white #432
Needles: 3.5 mm/4 US

Do you believe it, this is how much red yarn was left after knitting both mittens not including the thumbs. That means I had to buy an extra ball for the thumbs. Good thing my mom gets the next pair which will be knit in the same red, so it’s not too dramatic

I think I’ve frogged and re-knit these babies at least twice. Although I was very careful to get every mistake fixed before finishing them, there is still one left. In fact, I just found it while looking at this picture. I believe small mistakes add character to a project and make it unique. Hey, what can I say, I’m a mom of three including my husband two small children, I’m allowed to make these kinds of mistakes. Who wants to be perfect? Who am I kidding? I’ve given birth to so many mistakes in these mittens already, I don’t mind keeping them anymore.

I’ve decided to dedicate this FO to three of my favorite Norwegians: Ohelene, Nina and Torunn (Nina’s mom). You are great blog friends and now I have my Norwegians to remind me of you!

Update:  I forgot to add one of the most important things about this FO.  This is my second pair of finished mittens for Nona’s Peaceful Palms knit-along.  Yeah! I am so excited to get these finished before it’s over on the 31st.
