Yes, you heard that right. It’s time to do a bi-knit-athon. What is a biknitathon? Well, as you may have heard in my last few posts, I’ve been jogging again. I started about a month and a half ago but I didn’t want to say anything for fear I might jinx things. I’m up to about 50 minutes on the weekend, and if life allows, two 30-minute bouts during the week. On my mid-week runs I have the kids with me, so Alida sits in the jogger and Alexander rides his bike. It’s quite fun and we always have things to look for-boats, ducks, other crazy joggers, just about everything.
As I was running two weeks ago and saw all the pretty fall colors, I realized that I should have brought my camera with me to capture it all. I was quite curious if it would work- jogging and snapping pictures, so last Sunday I went alone with just my mp3 player and my camera.
I felt like I was in a biathlon where you run and then have to shoot at a target right in the middle of the race. The goal is to get your hands calm enough to shoot the target. I just had to keep steady to focus. I was also amazed at how I was so distracted taking in my surroundings, that I hardly noticed that my legs were telling me to stop. Great side effect, I tell you!!
Here are some of the shots I took. As always, click for big.
What would a jog in Germany be without going past Mercedes Benz?
I jogged by the zoo,
through the Tiergarten. Aren’t those colors so pretty?
over the lion bridge,
and past the golden angel. (It’s not the real name but we like it better)
I thought this would be good for you too.
For all of you who are in
(and those of you who may not be) you need to get out there and take pictures of your activities. It doesn’t matter if you just take the stairs daily instead of the elevator-take a pic and show us. Sound good?
Inspired by Sandy who is on a sugar-free diet, my dad who has diabetes, and after seeing these inspirational socks from Miss88keys and Erica’s pretty socks from her October 19th post, I decided I needed this pattern.
The best part of it is that $2.00 goes to fight diabetes. What a great idea!!
I think we all need to get back into the sugar-free mode (for me, almost-sugar-free mode), and we need to get and stay fit, especially right before Christmas.
Let’s get fit and knit together!!! Anyone interested in taking some pictures? Look for me sporting jogging shoes and a camera, then it’s back to kntiting on the couch and feeling the pain.

Great idea! I had to dramatically change my diet because of pre-diabetes. I wasn’t overweight or anything, but my diet wasn’t great. Since June, I’ve cut refined sugar dramatically, become a conscientious label reader, and done a lot more cardio. My blood sugar is down and as a bonus, I’ve lost 20 pounds that I’d been carrying since the two kids. I’ve got about 6 more to my goal.
Good luck with your jogging!

Great idea for the pictures, I’ll try and get some of my jogging route up soon. The way(s) I usually go contribute at least as much benefit to my state of mind as the jogging itself does to my bod.

Sugar free diet, are you nuts? Before Christmas, not a chance from this chick. I’m going to be baking tons of christmas cookies and enjoying them all. Jogging not for me with my titanium hip but I do walk a lot. Although we don’t have anything nearly as pretty as Der Tiergarten. bye, hugs

Great post. We are heading out for another brisk walk around the lake today (about 2.5 miles) to enjoy some very nice weather we are still having here on the Canadian Prairies. I do want to get back to running though, only a few years ago I easily RAN around this same lake sigggggh…..
Thanks for the inspiration. Huggs, G

Great idea! Your fall colors are gorgeous!
I’d love to play along, but I am going to have to think on the camera situation. I don’t have a small digital, but only a bulky digital SLR. Maybe it’s time for a new camera!!!!

I have not exercised in two months and I have been feeling very guilty about it. Thanks for the inspiration to start up again.

That is such a cool idea! I should bring my camera next time I go for a walk. I really enjoyed seeing your pictures. You run through some pretty cool places. My pictures won’t be that exciting, but I’ll try anyway.

I had to look twice at your title. For some reason I thought it said bikini-athon. I’m fit but not THAT fit–ha ha! Gorgeous pictures, Kimberly. I’ll have to remember to bring my camera next time I go for a walk.

what a wonderful running route! I’m sure I would run more often if I could look at that scenery!
I am re-joining the gym this week. I slacked off for way too long and now I need to start up again!

You are such a doll! I feel honored to have been a link in your post even if those are the WORST photo of those socks. They really are much better in person!
I think I’ll join you in being fit & knitting. My lil sis is doing something called “Couch Potato to 5K”, so tomorrow morning I start on day one of my adventure.

Can I join in if I’m not fit yet, but aiming to be? Some days I swear I stand up to knit in the evenings because my bum is so sore from sitting on it all day, I could use some knit-affiliated motivation!

I’m fit and I knit and sew and create…I’ve been taking my camera when I deliver papers. It makes me look at the neighborhood in a whole different perspective. Count me in! I’ve got a few pounds to lose before Christmas!
